Melanotan 2 is a synthetic analogue of the naturally occurring peptide hormone alpha-Melanocyte Stimulating Hormone (alpha-MSH), consisting of 7 amino acids in a cyclic lactam bridge structure. Unlike Melanotan 1, Melanotan 2 is a non-selective melanocortin receptor agonist, binding to multiple melanocortin receptor subtypes including MC1R, MC3R, MC4R and MC5R.
